ADA & OSHA signage requirements
What are ADA & Safety Signs?
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) – Americans with Disability Act (ADA) legislation was written back in the 1990s to protect the rights of individuals with disabilities. The Act requires that all business owners provide adequate “ADA signs” (i.e. signage designed according to ADA stipulations) to make their buildings, products, and service accessible to everyone.
Safety signs are established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). They require specific signage (Danger, Caution & Safety Instructions) to be on display in every business for the safety and well-being of employees, visitors, customers, or clients, etc.
Many of these OSHA signs serve an important role in a business. It is important to understand and comply with the laws and regulations that have been established. ADA signage ensures that all persons, with and without a physical disability, are treated fairly and have equal access. ADA signs are required so that your enterprise is accessible for everyone, regardless of their special needs, i.e., from wheelchair accessibility to braille for the visually impaired.
Safety signs must use high-contrast colors to ensure they are easily visible day and evening. Safety signs protect your employees, guests, visitors, customers from potentially dangerous areas in your business that should only be entered into by those wearing appropriate safety gear. There are a lot of safety signs required for businesses required to maintain compliance with OSHA regulations. The knowledgeable team at Vector Sign Solutions is ready to help you understand what signs are needed to ensure your business is compliant with ADA and OSHA requirements.

Each group establishes their own standards for their specialization and level of authority.
OSHA is responsible for regulating most workplaces including the specifications for safety signs and accident prevention signs. The safety requirements are spelled out in 29 Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) 1910.145. These safety specifications cover all safety signs except those designed for streets, highways and railroads.
